Unmasking Nature Exhibition Programme of Events

StimDex - An interactive talk on the ‘Stim-ability’ of Irish Biodiversity

Saturday 7th November 11:00 - 12:30

Come and delve into Unmasking Nature’s StimDex, an index of the ‘Stim-ability’ and sensory qualities of Irish Biodiversity.

Unmasking Nature’s trove of natural ‘stim-pilments’ is a collection of sustainably foraged materials selected for their sensory diversities – from textures and intricate patterns, to temperature, weight and the way they feel in your hand. The collection explores the connections between biophilia, neurodiversity and sensory experience.

Led by biophilic experts Eóin O’Raghallaigh & Melissa O’Brien.

Biophilia describes our innate tendency to connect with the natural world, while neurodiversity invites us to recognise the diverse ways people perceive, process and connect to the world around us. When we recognise ourselves as part of nature, we begin to see neurodiversity as part of the biodiversity around us.

Through this interactive talk, participants are encouraged to explore their own sensory connections to biodiversity and consider how nature offers spaces to stim, regulate and experience the world without masking who we are. Rather than suggesting there is one way to be, Unmasking Nature considers the myriad of ways people connect to the world around us.
